Red Alert: Creepy Corona Guy

"There's one in every bar"

If you weren't privy to Saturday night's latest tirade, I have a few things to catch you up on.

Like every bar, we have our share of quacks that come in and make their presence know. Creepy Corona Guy is one of them. Think of him as a mix between annoying-stop-talking-to-me Regular Vegas with the common sense of Half Shot. Then add a mix of 'you have a wife and kids, why are you hitting on me at 2am?'

His M.O is always the same: he corners girls younger then himself, talks their ear off while oblivious they're staring into space bored out of their minds and then tells them this story:

When he wants to hook up with a girl, he tells them they have to first take an STD test. If they panic then obviously they have a little something something. If they don't then they pass his test.

The kicker is:

there is no actual test. Just a line.

And a wife

and the cutest kids ever.

He outstayed his welcome on Saturday night when he started a fight with The Boyfriend over the fact that I wouldn't share celery with him.

I told you we get some special people in Foleys.

Status: Kicked out but likely to be back, because like I said: he's got the common sense of Half Shot, who always comes back.

Time Flies When You Actually Have a Job

Before Golden Tee and Kapowski come knocking down my door, steal my computer and start blogging themselves, I found some time to sit down and catch up on this little thing I call my blog.

It's been a stressful few weeks between starting my new travel writing career and getting ready for the wedding in October. I've been fighting the Momzilla to make the wedding as simple and as easy as possible, but it's taken a strain on our relationship and before I teetered on the edge of going completely crazy- I went out for a couple cocktails. Or ten.

But here's how I've balanced my new work load:

because you know the ol' saying:

all work and no play can make one very dull bartender.

...Or something like that.

(yes... that is a penis. and yes... it's part of a lamp stand)

Guest Bartending Thursday Night's = Mayham

This post is long over due, but I'm still trying to get in the hang of my new writing schedule. But not to fear, The Boyfriend is in Kentucky for two weeks training for his new job, so there will be plenty of time spent at the bar.

Thursday night's we have started pimping out Foley's to a guest bartender. We figured there is only so much of The Boyfriend's and my face you can take during the week so we might as well shake it up as best as possible.

This past Thursday was one for the books:

8:15 pm- Our Guest Bartender arrives

8:20pm- The Boyfriend explains that you can only drink behind the bar if someone buys you a drink. Approximately five customers rush to the bar

By 9pm all the girls have taken their usual position at the end of the bar

Time becomes a non-issue as soon as shots and drinks start flowing

I will leave the name of the good company that hired me out of this blog so not to drag their name or my impending paycheck through the mud.

After interviewing last week and being hired on the spot there was only one thing I could really do:

Celebrate.

Feeling bold, I ventured away from Foleys and headed to Finnegans with a few good people

For those of you who didn't know, The Boyfriend has been on a two month quest to get ahold of his best man. His reason for disapearance was unknown, although we do know it was not for the following reasons:

1. He didn't fall in love and then go into hiding because he found his girlfriend stashing guys in the bushes.

2. He didn't steal/borrow/take money from us and then never return.

3. He didn't fall in love with Irish and check into the looney bin.

Upon his return we celebrated the birth of our country and normal people returning to our lives.

So after my scathing post on Half Shot my computer died.

Since then, so much has happened. Summer began and so has the drama.

Business at the bar has picked up a lot since The Boyfriend took over, but as everyone knows success doesn't come without a few enemies. Expecially if you're another bar owner in the area who is trying to keep your own beer flowing.

It's nice though to step out of the nightlife sometimes and play a different kind of game for once.

On a rare night off, The Boyfriend and I headed into Connecticut for the Danbury Fair. A month long celebration of carnival games, stomach tumbling rides and all the greasy food you can consume.

After riding a few rides and throwing a few darts we ended up vying for a fish at the toss your ping pong into the fish bowl game.

After 120 balls we finally won the fish of our choice

That ended up dying the next day.

Darts and Drama... That's What Foley's Does Best

For those of you that were at Foley's last night, this blog post won't come as a surprise to you. If you weren't, there is a very important lesson to be learned:

Never make enemies of your friends and then return to a place you aren't welcome in anymore.

Awkwardness, uncomfortableness, embarrassment and blogging will ensue.

Low and behold, on the first night that the summer dart league kicked off at Foley's, who should saunter in but Half Shot himself.

Playing for the other team.

Shrubs locked her ball and chain onto Half Shot last season and wouldn't allow him to play for the Foley's Dart team because, well... it's us.

Now that she's found another boy toy, she's allowing him out of the house on Tuesday nights to play for another team. Any team. As long as it's not Foley's.

A sad shell of the person he once was, Half Shot couldn't even muster the courage to order a water or come up with a plausible excuse as to why he was playing for an opposing team or why he still fears bushes.

What I Didn't Remember from Friday Night

I've been exhausted all weekend and thought by some chance I was getting a summer cold (forgetting that could totally be an oxymoron) but as the weariness got worse I thought perhaps I was coming down with mono (although The Boyfriend seems perfectly fine).

Then photos from Friday night began to creep up on Facebook. Every so often I get a taste of my own medicine and the camera gets turned on me.

They do however clear up my mystery illness:

diagnoses: too much Foleys.

Yet notice a telltale sign I've had too many shots:

There are about seven bars in the Pleasantville area and only two really good ones. I believe Foley's to be one of these.

We don't ban our employees from going to other bars,

We don't charge an arm and a leg for a beer,

and we have the most fun as humanly possible with groups of people that have nothing in common except the need for a drink after a long day.

It's difficult to be miserable around faces like these:

This wasn't a usual Friday night by any means. The weekend regulars were celebrating the high school's graduation with their grads while others celebrated by throwing a few back on their own.

When I closed my eyes for a brief moment last night, I could hear the harmonica playing in the background as the beating drum kept pace for the people who I knew were dancing in the middle of the bar. I could smell the stale beer and hear hands clapping and for a moment it was almost like we were back in New Orleans.

Except I was bartending at Foley's and it was a rainy Wednesday night.

But our new Blues night was a success and if it can conjure up images of New Orleans, it makes me one happy bartender.

Gossip I Haven't Caught You Up On

Working night in and night out in the bar I get a chance to see two different sides of people: the sober side and they drunk side. Not to say the sober side is the more normal of the two for most people. In fact, in most cases of Foley's customers it's when you sober up that the drama really happens.

Slushy believes she has moved on from Pleasantville and is dating someone else. Drunk, she'll tell you she never loved Irish and she is totally over the drama she spun. Sober, she's still miserable because you can't run from a past you think you left behind.
Bubbles has started dating a better guy than Poker Chip because the new guy has more perks in the relationship: a car, money and a house. Drunk, Bubbles thinks she's finally found the relationship of her dreams. Sober, Poker Chip still sucks.
Charity has a new place to live and a job. Drunk, he probably 'borrowed' money from his parents to pay for those drinks. Sober, he's living with his parents, has a part time job a monkey can do and still owes all his friends money and an apology.
Half Shot is still locked away and not allowed to make his own choices or have friends. Drunk... oh wait he's not allowed to be.

The Shot Glass Campaign

We, the customers of Foley's have begun our campaign for better shot glasses in order to partake in better drink bombs.

There is just something more organized in glasses that separate the Red Bull/Guiness/Beer/Cider/Soda from the alcohol shot.

And as a bartender they are a lot easier to clean.

(I dropped the ball a little on taking a descriptive picture of these little guys but hopefully you get the general idea)

Stop by Foley's to have your picture taken with a shot glass to show your support in getting the owners to buy these so that we may do more Jager Bombs/Cherry Bombs/Car Bombs/Create Your Own Bomb.

Went to the Party and Took on the Poopers

Yellow: We bond over our abilities to get deleted from people's Facebook accounts together and don't mind making late night trips to Atlantic City.

Why He's Going To Make a Good Roommate: Our common spontaneity gene and our mutual hatred of all things Poker Chip will make living under the same roof adventurous.

Irish: We've been known to leave bars when the sun is coming up and since he's dating my best friend it's a win-win situation.

Why He's Going To Make a Good Roommate: In case there's a fire it's always good to live with a real firefighter.

Stems: The honorary member of our clan (until October?) It'll always be good to have another female in the house for questions about how to unwrinkle clothes and what medicine to take when your body parts are sick.

The Boyfriend: We fell in love over favorite movies, music, travel and he looks hot playing the guitar. Plus we're getting married, it's pretty important to cohabitate.

In celebration of my dad's 'I'm one year away from the big 6-0' birthday celebration, The Boyfriend and I decided to take him and my mother to a Yankee game. But like with most things in my life: game day was full of drama on and off the field.

On the way to the stadium I passed my mother's usual inspection: Yes, I have lost weight for the wedding, No, I have not called the florist, Yes, I know I have five months to get a lot done and will not procrastinate like I do for everything else.

Luckily, the excitement of the New York crowd and the smells of beer and hot dogs were enough to make us all relax and enjoy the game

That is until A-Rod clocked the pitcher in the head with a baseball

While all the fans were saying silent prayers for the fallen baseball player, I of course snapped pictures. There may or may not be something slightly wrong with me. But in any case there was several moments of real tension that grazed the crowd.

It was broken however, when Charity called out of nowhere to let us know he too was at the game and wanted to meet up for a drink. Doubtful in his intentions since he hasn't been heard from in weeks we ignored the call:

Would we have to buy him the drinks?

Who did he "borrow" money from to get tickets to the game?

Were him and Slushy having a secret affair that nobody knew about and that's why they both disappeared from social existence around the same time?

Too many questions on such a beautiful day.

After a night of dancing, drinking 'Peach Knock You Off Your Cobbler's' and indulging in our late night snack menu it's hard to believe you ever wanted to be anywhere else.

But this is where we grow friends... and memories.

The night began with the Miller Lite girls taking over my bar shift for a bit as well as a fight over the last bar stool. Gentleman: BE gentleman and always give a girl your seat.

Soon the night was off to a beer infused start.

And while some customers were comparing drink orders, others were comparing body parts...

Relax...it's not exactly what you think...

From Lunch Date to Day Drinking

It's been a little over a month since our trip to New Orleans, but the longing for warm days outside drinking Abita and snacking on crawfish are still there. With The Boyfriend working the day shifts at Foley's all week, Golden Tee and I decided to take matters into our own hands and head to The Bayou to recapture the drunkeness of our past trip.

Anyone with the diet version of fried pickles is strongly suggested to leave the recipe below. Utter gratitude will be given from me and my stomach.

After our waiter Marco served us our food and then told us he was a professional skydiver we ordered another round of Purple Haze and asked a few jumping out of airplane safety related questions.

Once we realized we had one too many beers and skydiving actually sounded appealing, Golden Tee and I headed to Sunset Cove to sit by the water.

Unfortunately, we had to tap out of day drinking as responsibilities set in and I had to return to work for the night and Golden Tee off to help the Foley's Dart Team get one step closer to their Dart Championship.

One of the most difficult lessons I've had to learn is the difference between bar friends and real friends. Being in the bar business, as vision gets blurry so do those lines.

Lately, it's been one person after another: Half Shot still stews in his jealousy over The Boyfriend buying the bar and not him so he cut himself out of our lives completely, Slushy can't be around Irish since he didn't return her affections so she can't be around anyone associated with him, and Charity can't pay back any of his friends for their gracious donations that he vanished completely instead of owning up to his debt.

Perhaps life took it upon itself to spring clean the dirt from my life.

What I'm left with is minimal drama and the greatest people a girl could ask for"

The sun was shining yesterday, I was wearing a cute outfits and with the best band in Pleasantville performing at Foley's the anticipation of a great night was in the air.

It was one of those nights at work on Wednesday: Old Man Steve was complaining too much, his beer tasted funny, the fries weren't crispy enough, why did I wait two seconds longer than normal to put the basketball game on?

I mentally checked my blood pressure when another of my 'Top Five' annoying customers came in and wanted to chat instead of just ordering his drink.

Between wedding planning, getting ready to move and The Boyfriend and I being at the bar every night of the week I needed an escape.

At midnight Wednesday night, plans were hatched to just get in the car and drive...to Atlantic City.

So Yellow and I did.

At the Borgata we won a little... and then lost a little more

After breakfast we decided to hit up the Boardwalk to casino hop and enjoy what had turned into a beautiful day after the cold week we had left behind

At Caesar's, the god's were not smiling on us and our luck remained the same

Wishes were finally granted at the Taj and the Sultan's of gambling showed us (Yellow) with cash

All of Wednesday's tip money exhausted, we headed home: mentally refreshed, near broke and a smelling of defeat and happiness.

When You Give a Drunk a Sombrero...

I've never really understood people who are blatantly contradictory. If you hate Pleasantville, why do you keep coming back? If you hate New York City, why do you go? If you're a self proclaimed bitch, do you really expect people not to be a bitch back to you?

With the majority of the drama being weeded out from Foleys, weeknight's have turned into a random 'get your drink on and see what happens' kind of night.

Last night happened to involve a man named Freedom and a sombrero

and in the battle of the Buffalo Wings, Freedom emerged victorious.

It's been a pretty mundane couple days at Chez Foley. My own fault really, for exhausting my funess all on one Thursday. But according to the laws of The Bar, 'things can only go up from here'.

Don't Wear Nice Clothes to Foleys

After last night's self imposed Mojito Thursday, I will be lobbying to add Bloody Mary's to Foley's new take out and delivery menu. Those who support this venture please sign below. Thanks.

It was a tame night in retrospect. The Boyfriend was training our new bartender, Kapowski, showing her the Foley's ropes and who to not serve after 3am (hint hint, nudge nudge... me). Meanwhile, I was trying to close the case of the mischievous bar customer who added a little something something to my purse Wednesday night.

I was also inventing a new bar drinking game in light of certain customers who have a tendency to repeat things thinking if we didn't care the first time maybe we'll care after you've said it another ten times.

Here are the rules:

1. Every time Spider refers to his age: take a shot of Chivas, aged 12 years.

2. For every time Uncle Steve asked to change the television channel: take a drink from your beer.

3. Every time the word 'so' comes out of my mouth: take a shot of espresso vodka.

4. Every time The Hooker comes into the bar: chug your drink because you'll need it watching her trying to whore herself out to get attention.

Two non-whores: Kapowski and I from last night.

Thought it was too cute not to put in the blog. Discard the exhaustion look on my face.

One Cinco de Mayo Ago...

Happy Blogiversary to me... It's been one year since I started documenting the shenanigans my friends and I pull on a nightly basis at the bar. So in honor of this special occasion, I've changed my blog layout (still working on the header people) and decided to catch you up on the crazy life we lead.

The purchase of Foley's was completed by The Boyfriend and much what I believe it will be like if we ever have kids, we have invested all our time and effort into the upbringing of our little bar.

Actually The Boyfriend has done most of the work and I've reaped the benefits of having one extra bar shift a week.

One person not so happy with the recent acquisition is Half Shot. The regular black cloud on any sunny day is furious that he wasn't formally invited back to the bar and was instead told of the reopening by mass text.

Ex-Bud Rep a.k.a Cookie Monster a.k.a Charity has filed for bankruptcy and is challenging Half Shot for the 'Biggest Retard' Award given out yearly to the person who meets the following qualifications:

Screws over friends
Disappears for long periods without explanation when in short they just aren't allowed at the bar.
did I mention screw over friends?

Claiming he was unable to pay his bar tab because he was short on cash, Charity then borrowed more money to finance trips to New York City and day drinking extravaganzas to other bars. Free is his middle name and taking money from his friends is his game.

Slushy, in her final stages of normality, was rumored to have completely lost it over Irish, going as far as sitting outside his apartment in her car to catch a fleeting glance. Realizing he could never love her the way he loves Stems, she vanished never to be heard from again.

In the meantime, the rest of us have celebrated the best and happiest times of our lives with real friends and good drinks.

New Orleans Group Trip Preparation

I still don't have my camera and I still don't have Foley's but life is still going on.

It's been exactly six months since our last group field trip to New Orleans therefore we decided another one was in order. This time with a new cast of characters and a few returning ones.

The Boyfriend, Biffer, Irish, Stems, Golden Tee, Yellow, The Cousin and I will be packing our bags and jetting out Thrusday night/Friday morning.

I can't think of a better group of people to vacation with.

But with greatness, come great responsibility.

The Boyfriend: the assumed leader of the group knows the ins and outs of travel when it comes to New Orleans. Even double fisting Abita beers he could make his way around.

chance of return: EXCELLENT

Biffer: No longer a stranger to Bourbon Street or the power of a Hurricane, she learned that in New Orleans: Asians stick together. With the Real World filming right near us, there are impending plans to make one of our better looking members of the group a reality star.

chance of return: Okay, depending on how famous she becomes.

Irish: Most likely remembered in New Orleans for his ability to drink anything and everything in town while still screaming 'Do you know who the F* I am?' to strangers who have no idea. With him there is never a shortage of amusing antics and crazy stories.

chance of return: Better than usual now that he has a girlfriend to make sure he gets on the plane.

Stems: No stranger to crazy nights herself, this is her first drinking extravaganza in another state with the Foley's crew. Spews witty comebacks and one liners with the best of them, I've seen her drink all night and still be the last one standing.

chance of return: Good, as long as we don't lose Irish.

Golden Tee: The Instigator. He's the devil on your left shoulder and sometimes his own. Never had a bad time hanging out with him. Ladies beware: his topics of conversation will either charm you or greatly horrify you.

chance of return: Average. Hitting it big at the casino could be cause for a couple days more.

Yellow: Another first timer to New Orleans, he is most likely to take advantage of the 3 for 1 drinks or the 10 for $10 Cherry Bombs because, 'why not?' Will be heard screaming 'shots!' throughout the streets and being the one to actually as what a 'Tooter' is.

chance of return: Average. It's going to be love at first sight.

The Cousin: Just when you thought he was the quiet one, he has a couple shots and is the comedian of the group. Don't argue with him-you won't win and once he gets on the dance floor you'll be in awe. Best quality going into the trip: he can puke and rally.

chance of return: Good. Unless the stripper ask him to stay.

For anyone who has ever wondered where I get my phenomenal urges to decorate and entertain: it comes from my mother who is probably the most creative person I know.

The Boyfriend and I headed to Connecticut for Easter lunch with my parents and were greeted with this visionary feast

Martha Stewart move over, my mother's in town.

Not only were the decorations up to par, but the wine was flowing and food was amazing. Cameras are not allowed by etiquette at the lunch table but I did manage to snap the dessert.

The Boyfriend and I headed to Gillian's somewhere near the Palisades Mall yesterday for a change in seafood scenery.

Among their menu selections is a Man vs. Food burger: which if you've seen the Travel Channel television show you can only image what that must look like.

I still haven't figured out how to turn the flash back on my camera. Anyone with a Coolpix is encouraged to contact me with help. In the meantime, enjoy the slightly blurriness of my life.

Yesterday, The Boyfriend, our parents and I attended our first food tasting for the wedding. It was a little sample of what the actual event would be like, but it made me realize this was going to be even more fun then I imagined.

It began with a cocktail hour: with waiters in white gloves passing around appetizers like crab claws, mini egg roles, and seafood bites. They were also serving free wine and their signature cocktail. Since yours truly has given up alcohol until wedding dress shopping in two weeks, my afternoon continued on a sober note.

There was also a table in the center of the room for pickens as well

We were then escorted into the ballroom (not where our wedding reception is going to be held) for a full course meal to get an idea of what food would be served and to get a general idea of table arrangements.

The waiter continued to bring around wine, which I seemed to notice their overbearing 'drink me' presence since I am no longer obliging them. It was also noted that they were short staffed for the evening, leading me to believe the wine pushers will be out in abundance for the actual event.

Since I was due to work last night and couldn't attend the New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade, I took it upon myself to bring the party to me. I spent most of Tuesday cooking for the celebration and it came out looking something like this:

The weather was so gorgeous that we decided to take the party outside and begin our rather unconventional way of celebrating

Yes, this is a board game and Yes, we did make it ourselves. The object was to cross the entire board quickly and without getting drunk. It's somewhat difficult with cards that tell you to take a shot with Slushy or to refill your drink.

The party then continued with more green goodness

The blackout has finally ended. This time it's not in reference to the liquor consumption of my friends and I, but rather the storm that passed through over the weekend. Trees pulled down power lines and debris was scattered everywhere.

By Sunday I'd had enough of trying to function by candlelight, so I packed up the puppies and headed to my parents house in Connecticut where they happily took all of us in.

After a home cooked meal, I headed over to work a couple hours of The Boyfriend's bar shift at Foley's.

The night continued when Slushy arrived as we sat down to create the ultimate St. Patrick's day ~~drinking~~ board game.

The basic premise is to get down the path without a hitch. Each turn however, you have to draw a card. Cards vary in requirements from "The Boss forgot to restock the Jameson, go back 2 spaces" to "Mystery Shot" and "You completed the Chuggulator, go ahead 3 spaces".

After finishing the creation of the game, we grabbed a group of people and decided to take it for a test run

It's been a busy week in wedding land therefore the drinking has been kept to a bare minimum. No worries though, all will be compensated at the actual event.

The final wedding list has been determined and invitations are almost ready to go out.

This wouldn't be as notable if you realized how stressful this task actually was. We opted for the smaller area of the grounds at Dolce which only holds 150 people.

So if you think you weren't invited, you probably aren't.

There was however, one incident that took place last night that deserves mention in the blog. The Foley's con artist.

We've all seen it happen, most of us girls do it regularly: the free drink con.

You sit and talk to a guy for awhile. He buys you a drink. You finish it. You move on to the next drunk sucker.

Last night a guy pulled this maneuver on other guys in the bar. It was amazing to watch. First: he complimented Irish's fauxhawk so he bought him a drink.

He then chatted up darts with Yellow: another drink.

I have no idea what he said to another guy but drink number 3 was bought.

Yellow had his head full of BonBons and bought drink 4.

Finally at last call the guy found his last victim: a guy who has just broken up with his girlfriend. The con artist had also "broken up with his girlfriend" so he could relate.

Drink #5.

I've never seen a guy play a girl game better.

Except when he tried his moves on Slushy: she rudely (and justifiably) told him to get lost.

Drunk as a skunk on $5 and didn't even have to show cleavage. It can be done.

It really was suppose to be a simply fun weekend. But anytime drinks are involved things always take a turn towards dramatic.

This past Saturday was the Hoboken St. Patrick's Day Parade (Yes, ladies and gentleman: St. Patrick's Season has arrived). Unfortunately, since the Boss conveniently forgot he had only told me I was working Saturday's until January, I am now still stuck in this Saturday day shift and unable to attend the festivities. Way to put a damper on life.

Out of necessity, FauxBoken was born.

The event took place at Foley's and those who got the invite were also in similar situations: their boss has no heart, they're on a budget, they forgot to buy green attire this early on in March.

But whatever the case may be, everyone showed up.

Towards the end of my shift is when I found out the news: The Boss one uped himself on making his employees miserable.

If you didn't read a previous post let me reiterate the qualifications the new hire has:

- His bartending skills borderline that of a monkey and Half Shot.

- Look wise: the monkey is probably better looking

- As a GUY he insist on a lime with his Captain and Ginger.

But since the Boss is trying to suck up to his father, that makes him qualified to work one of the best shifts at the bar. Oh, and he got offered another night shift.

Dear St. Patrick, may the luck of the leprechauns be with Foley's in this time of horrible decision making.

Or at least let us be drunk till April.

Since Foley's was no longer an option for drinking we headed over to dinner at Lucky Budhha where Saki Bombs and hibachi indulgence took place

During dinner, the boys decided to pull a little joke on a jamo induced Slushy

After leaving for the bathroom, they loaded her unattended purse with silverware, bowls, saki carafe's and other table top paraphernalia

While the bill was being paid a befuddled Slushy was asked to empty out her purse by the manager who thought she was making off with her own hibachi set.

Deciding we needed to drink more and prank less, we headed next door to Finnegan's for a night of good old fashion fun

The night doesn't end there, but the pictures do. They pick up on a Sunday Funday like the party never stopped.

Back at Foley' the fun commenced and the hangover was forgotten.

Now that Slushy finally got her new valid ID in the mail, new drinking locations are being considered for weekend debauchery

Mental Health Day

I'm taking a mental health day.

In honor of this I am airing my grievances, taking a nap and heading to the bar.

Don't make plans with me down to the time we're meeting up and then not show, text or call. Texting me "heyyyy what's up?!" the next day makes me think you have some sort of evil twin that I've been making plans with as well.
"I drank an entire bottle of Jamo" is not an acceptable excuse. You'd be dead or confused the next morning. Not facebooking me at 8am.
To be honest, I don't care how much time you spent in the gym, what you will or will not eat and how many winter pounds you gained. Some people just can't shed a bad attitude.
Don't text me while I'm working at the bar and ask who's there. I'm there.
If you get your heart broken by a bar hook up buddy, it's not you it's them. It does not denote avoidance of the bar or bursting into tears when someone orders "your" shot. Love doesn't exist on alcohol alone.

It should have been a regular weekend of normality: go to work, go home, get some writing done, throw a little Sunday Funday into the mix. Shake, don't stir.

But cabin fever from last weeks snow storm hit and the past several days became something of a different sort.

Well rested and ready to kick off my weekend, I went into my bar shift Saturday with a better attitude than most mornings. The sun was shining, the snow had stopped falling, the birds were chirping and for some reason there was a giant hole in the window of Foleys.

According to various eyewitnesses it was a "snowball" that caused the damage. If claims turn out to be true, then a drunk has invented the newest secret weapon of winter destruction: the snow bomb. It's the only reasonable explanation to break a window of this thickness

At the end of this post please feel free to vote in the Snow Bomb Poll:

a) Yes, I believe it. Drunks are stronger than they appear.

b) I'll believe ya when me shit turns purple and smells like rainbow sherbet.

But the real bomb came at the end of my shift when we saw the new bartender that The Boss had hired. Awkward in both bar mentality and appearance, HE is suppose to be the one that will bring in the bar dough on the weekends. Upon his completion of training, Saturday nights Foley's will now turn into the Rainbow Room.

He does after all insist on a lime every time he orders a Captain and Ginger.

Sunday I forgot my camera but here for your eyes only is a list of the top moments from Sunday Funday:

Golden Tee goes on a fifteen minute tangent because we are flying out of a NYC airport instead of a small local one for our impending trip to New Orleans. Irish tells him to calm down, take a deep breath and tell us how he really feels. Golden Tee remains mad.
Golden Tee then turns to Slushy and ask her if she shaves her butthole. Her response is not permitted on the blog.
Cookie Monster took a vow of no shots during the Lent season. We discovered the devil's loophole with mind erasers. Technically, we believe they aren't considered a shot since they are filled with ice and the glass never leaves the bar.

Monday (still my weekend), I woke up feeling refreshed thanks to a gallon of lemon Gatorade. Yellow, Golden Tee, The Boyfriend and I decided to head over to Lucky Budhha for lunch and to reminisce on the events of the night before. A Lychee Martini was also thrown into the mix.

Errands then led us all over to the Eastchester Inn where several video bowling matches took place. I was also presented with a new drinking toy for blog purposes:

A Little Late: But Monday Did Happen

Several weeks...or months (time flies when you're having fun) I wrote an article on prohibition bars in New York City. I visited bars that have survived that era as well as bars that alluded to what they could have been. The crawl went rather quickly because we had so many bars to hit up, but there was one we really wanted to revisit: McSorely's.

Several years after passing through the gates of Elis Island, John McSorely opened the doors to an ale house he aptly named, “The Old House at Home”. Today the bar still stands under the name “McSorely’s Old Ale House”, but other than that not much has changed.

The only alcohol that is served is their own brew which you can have one of two ways: light or dark, and two pints for $4.50 leaves little to complain about.

Much of the menu also remains the same

As does an old McSorely's traditional cheese platter: Aged cheddar cheese slices, saltines and onions. It was said a wife would always know her husband had been in McSorely's because she could smell their legendary onions.

The Boyfriend, Yellow and I were thrilled to eat, drink, and be merry. Irish however was lacking in day drinking abilities after his long weekend of shenanigans.

I have to insert here that to compensate for being a party pooper, the following night he did grace us with his presence and set a record for taking the most amount of jager shots in one minute without falling over.

McSorely's once had a party pooper too: they stole his drinking shoes and they still remain there today as a reminder to have fun or go home

Here's my late blogging excuse today: After working the double at Foley's all Saturday, I headed home to Connecticut to edit the wedding guest list. It now reads like the who's who of the best people in my life.

But I digress.

My bar shift Saturday was nothing short of long and entertaining. We were joined that afternoon by, who I was told was a boxing champion:

Another champion however did amuse me: The New Chuggulater Champion who managed to chug three pints of Guinness in one go.

As the night wore on and the customers began to trickle out I put the camera away and joined my best friends at the end of the bar. There were no pictures to describe our ability to make each other laugh and the many inside jokes we share.

On rare occasions do I ever really leave my Foley's bubble. What can I say? The drinks are cheap and they people are fun.
However, last night before my bar shift Slushy and I ventured over to my old stomping grounds where I donned an apron instead of a bottled opener: McArthurs.
El Gato and Biffer were working and it was half priced bottled wine nights. I'm not a real big wine person, but who was I to complain when the alcohol gods hand me a good deal?

A lot has changed since I last worked there and if you're in the area I highly recommend stopping in on a Wednesday night. Allegedly, they even have a wine tasting later in the night, but I had my own drunks to serve and had to get moving.

It wasn't a very typical weekday night, but a lot of my favorites returned to me to hang out for the night

Dear snow, if you insist on coming could you please refrain from falling on the days when I have to work at the bar. You'd be surprised to learn how many people DON'T want to come out, drink, and get snowed in.

At the start of my shift The Boss came in and tried reasoning with me that he wanted to take away two of my bar shifts because he was hiring another guy to work at the bar. This would leave me with one shift and my blog in sad condition.

For those of you who don't know Foley's, 90% of my customers are guys and I'm the only female bartender that works there. Don't give my shifts away. What we need is another girl bartender.
And more espresso vodka.

Needless to say, I was upset.

And could only cheered up by the antics of The Boyfriend, Yellow, Bud Rep a.k.a now the Cookie Monster, Golden Tee and Irish. Tonight the antics came in two shot glasses: one filled with Jameson and the other with pickle juice. The Pickleback was born.

Grossed out? you should be, it was worse as an actual eyewitness.

What better way to celebrate the beginning of Hallmark's biggest holiday then putting Foley's favorite couple (only couple?) behind the bar to work on a Saturday night?

We kissed at midnight like it was New Years, we drank like it was St. Patrick's day, and we gossiped like it was a normal weeknight.

Most of the gang was there

and those that weren't were still with us in spirits...

The night was still young when she-who-has-not-yet-been-nicknamed-in-this-blog came in with her boyfriend. We have a long standing "we don't like each other" history stemming from her attitude problem and her inability to stop whining. She refused to order drinks directly from me all evening, but I insisted on making them anyways.
A little rack vodka instead of Absolut, and a lot of Sprite with a dash of lime was her cocktail du jour. Imagine our surprise when she was "wasted" at the end of the night...

As midnight approached and the day of love was upon us, we agreed to one thing for the night

That was until a couple girls came over who regularly hang out at Finnegan's in order to clear up a rumor. They heard Half Shot was fired, not because Shrubbery Hag made him a irresponsible mess, but because he was arrested for touching little boys.

Because we agreed no negativity for love day, we just reacted:

All weather forecasters must be breathing a sigh of cold relief that their predictions actually came true this weekend. So to honor them we declared a snow day, even if our jobs didn't.

OysterFest and SuperBowl, Oh My

It's been a busy weekend and I've needed until now to recover from it. With that said, here is the top five moments from this weekend:

5. Foley's first annual Oysterfest is shucked onto the calender as an event that will happen again and again.

Maybe it was the Oysters. Or Maybe it was the way they tasted with my phenomenal hurricane mix.

4. Another customer is down for The Chuggulater count. Since nobody can remember who is the actual winner, The Chuggulater is forced into retirement.

3. After a long heart to heart, my mother admits my blog is not so bad. The pictures of me drinking are, but overall, not so bad. She will not be penalized in any way. Love you mom.

2. OysterFest was for family and friends. My favorite customer? A four year old.

ONE. The SAINTS win the SuperBowl. It was a night filled with crazy amounts of cheering, jello shots and victory fist pumps. How excited were we?

I haven't lived at home with my parents since I was a freshman in collage. My mother always had one idea of how I was suppose to live my life, and I had dreams of something completely different. Something she's never been able to grasp. This blog was not in her master plan for me.

After telling her she needs to love it, learn to love it, or I'll probably write her into it (yes, I really threatened my own mother with a scathing blog post) , I headed to a place where I've made my own family; people who have supported me through thick and thin, shots and hangovers, and endless amounts entertainment.
Foley's. Duh.

Slushy was back in action after her drunken fall, so to welcome her back customers played every 'shake that ass', 'tail feather', 'free fall' song possible on the jukebox.

They also got in a few practice rounds on The Chuggulater for the Ultimate Chugging Contest tomorrow after during OysterFest.

Several of my bridesmaids (yay October wedding) showed up

While I had no clue what the rules of the game were, why it was being played, or what the general outcome was suppose to be, THESE were the notes that were being passed around from player to player

Snow is a bar's worst enemy, but also it's best friend. As soon as those little white flakes begin to fall, most people would rather stay home snuggled up rather than risk having a drink or two and driving home. I don't blame them.
However, there are those few that brave the snow looking for that near empty bar to, well...
here was my night:

Gordo's came in for dinner early in my shift for a dart rematch, since Foley's had beat them in the playoffs. There was a lot of fist pumping, tequitos and 'Buttercup' early on in the night. Unfortunately, as soon as the snow began to fall, customers started to trickling out.

Only Golden Tee, Irish, and The Mouth remained.

To ease the pain of a boring night, The Chuggulater was brought out.

Brought back from a trip to New Orleans late last year, The Chuggulater holds approximately three draft beers and is meant to either be drank from the cup itself or funneled from the tube on the side.

There is a reason we don't sell these in New York.

Let the chugging games begin...

Our first contestant was Irish.
He hails from somewhere around this area. Would rather drink Jager out of the bottle than a shot glass. And has more amusing drunk stories than Tucker Max.

The next contestant was Golden Tee.
His identity could not be revealed for employment purposes. He too hails from somewhere in this area, has recently jumped off the wagon after a month hiatus from drinking, and lights up my drinking life every time he walks into the bar.

His current chugging time is 3 and 1/2 seconds.

The final contestant was The Mouth.
Coming all the way to Foley's from Katonah, he probably knows more crazy stories about me than a normal human should, and can talk me into doing practically anything.

I left out one particular thing from the events of Saturday night purposely so I didn't step on anyones toes that I actually want to be friends with later on in life. However, an event in itself has arisen that I found really funny and since it's roots are vodka induced it's going on the blog.

Here's the backstory:

my favorite partner in crime, Slushy, was out with me Saturday and after a lot of alcohol combined with a little sweet talk she left to 'cuddle' with another one of our friends. In a drunken stupor she managed to fall off his loft bed area and get hurt. Real sympathies go out to her, but the following facebook conversation made me proud of The Boyfriends one liners in this awkward, yet amusing time.

Yellow: someone got their pimp hand on lol

Slushy: You're a dead man! As soon as I heal I'm seriously going to kill yooooou! lol ass.

The Boyfriend: Come on Slushy shake your tailfeather for me :-) oh wait...That's right u can't.... Sorry!

Slushy: you've never been more deserving of hell than at this very moment!

The Boyfriend: Alright Slushy if your that upset we can sit down and talk....Oh you cann't sit down....

Slushy: I can sit you ass bag!!!

Me: I'm just commenting because I want notifications when someone else replies to this conversation *heart*

The Boyfriend: What you up to Slushy just sitting around... Ohh yeah is that a sore subject...

After the week of hell I've been through, I couldn't wait for my shift to end yesterday evening and the drinking to begin. With the best band in Pleasantville performing and half the town heading over to Foley's, it seemed as if nothing could go wrong.

The drinking began fairly early for some...

and as more and more of our friends arrived, we decided to throw an impromptu going away party for Circus who moved this weekend out of the Foley's bubble.

I've seen a lot of sports championships in my day (I am from New York after all). But nothing I've ever experience can compare to the atmosphere, spirit and general drinking debauchery that come with being in New Orleans when the Saints won their ticket to the Super Bowl.

After spending a couple days in Orlando, The Boyfriend and I quickly boarded a plane and headed to my favorite city to watch the game on Bourbon Street.

We were soon touched by the spirit of the Saints and before long this:

You may have thought you've seen New Orleans at it's best, but there was nothing like the excitement that filled and packed the streets of Bourbon.

It was at this point a couple of the Foley's crew were sending me photo text of a celebratory shot for the win. Since AT&T wasn't getting more bars in more places, the picture was sent several times. We figured why not? and took a shot each time the picture was resent.

I can't promise there is going to be another post until next week. The Boyfriend and I are jetting off to Orlando for the weekend so he can take a class and then while we're in the area, we're heading to New Orleans for the day. Hey, why not?

Rules and Regulations for the Dart Playoffs Tonight

Last week the Foley's dart team beat out Gordos (sorry guys) to continue in the championships starting again tonight. If this week is anything like last week, I strongly suggest you come out and support your favorite team.

We just ask that you follow these simple rules:

regardless of being on Team Foley's, Team Gordo's or bartender of the night, everyone drinks together
You do not erase any pictures without asking no matter how incriminating they may be
Fist pumping is allowed at appropriate songs since this is CLUB Foley. 'Little Paw' only pertains to the blog mantra, 'This Town'
You can only blame yourself for the amount of shots you took during the night. Or the person who instigated them.
This may be the only time cheerleading-esque moves are more than appropriate during drinking hours.
If you bring any drama to the bar, your tab with promptly be doubled and you will be sent to Paulies for the remainder of the night. That's were the high school kids hang out.

Prohibition Bar Crawl

Often times I have wondered where I would be without alcohol. Hear me out before you start emailing me the number to AA.
I work in a bar, I write nightlife articles and I blog incisively about the fun my friends and I have nightly. What would I do without thy liquor?

And I'm not alone.
Between the years of 1920-1933, the era of Prohibition, there was allegedly 32,000 illegal bars in New York. Last night I went to six of them.

Shalel Lounge
If you walk too fast you might miss the menu perched on a gate or the gate's entrance that is marked by rose petals.

Down the stairs and through an alley way lies a Moroccan themed windowless cavern.

Little Branch

Another bar you could miss by simply just walking by, the entrance is marked by a small sign on the door of an uninviting brick building. Down the stairs of this refurbished building is another dim, windowless bar that is lit mostly by oil candles that was once a secret Chinatown speakeasy.

A small drink menu adorns every table but if nothing tickles your fancy, the bartenders seem to know your likes better than you do. Bonus points for serving absinthe.

PDT ( Please Don't Tell)

Especially hidden, the only way to get to this bar is through a telephone booth in the hot dog stand called Crif Dogs

The best way to get in is call early to reserve a spot or go in with one or two people. We were denied because of the size of our group of alcoholics.

Old Town Bar

The original tile floors, tin ceilings and dumbwaiters are still left over from when the place opened in 1892.

During prohibition this bar was protected by Tammany Hall, but still boast booths with hidden compartments to store drinks when the cops raided.

They also serve their own brewed beer: Old Town Seasonal.

Pete's Tavern

Opened in 1864, it is the longest continually running bar in New York City and was hidden under the guise of a flower shop during prohibition.

McSorely's Old Ale House

The one bar I could have stayed in the entire night, they serve two types of beers: dark or pale ale. During prohibition they brewed beer right in their basement and named it Near Beer. Too easy? Many politicians were allegedly among the regulars at the bar.

Orders of beer come in sets of two for $4.50.

Pants on the Ground

I have a customer, an older man in his late 50's (I'm guestimating, I'm the worst when it comes to age) who comes in regularly on my shifts and sits for a couple hours sipping on a pint of Bud. He loves 'American Idol' so I've allowed it on the television the past couple nights at the bar.

For those of you who didn't see the song 'Pants on the Ground' last night, check it out.
It caused a great deal of 'ungroundedness' at Foley's last night

Due to this, there were no pictures taken last night. But here is a rundown of what DID happen:

Pants on the Ground? You don't say... one customer proceeds to put his own pants on the ground resulting in minor tramatization of surrounding customers and slight gagging from the bartender.
I ran out of cut limes. The customer who ordered extra limes in his drink politely ask if he can cut more for me because he finds it 'therapeutic'. He proceeds to cut them in a variety of different ways.
Tweedle wacko and Tweedle wackier showed up. They proceed to talk politics which includes the following topics, 'Military aversion in Canada' and 'The Role Jack Daniels plays in choosing a President'. As the conversation got more heated they chose to ask the bar stools their opinion.
